Soot isn't just dirt — it's an acidic byproduct of combustion that keeps corroding metal, grout, and painted surfaces for as long as it sits untreated. Fire Damage Laser Cleaning's Soot Cleanup crews in New Lisbon, WI remove it using the correct mechanical method for each surface — dry sponging where wiping would smear, HEPA extraction on fabric and porous material, and solvent cleaning only where the surface can handle it.
A damp cloth is the wrong first move on dry soot; it drives the residue into the surface rather than removing it, and we see this mistake constantly on New Lisbon service calls. Our technicians test the residue type before choosing a method, not after.

Painted drywall, brick, metal, and fabric each get a different soot removal technique matched to that material.
Because soot is acidic, we apply a neutralizing step on metal fixtures and hardware before corrosion sets in permanently.
Soot keeps etching the longer it sits, so New Lisbon calls get same-day scheduling whenever possible.

One of the more common New Lisbon service calls involves a homeowner who scrubbed soot off a wall themselves only to end up with a darker, harder-to-remove stain than what they started with — that's the acidic residue reacting with whatever cleaner was used.
Using the wrong cleaning product on soot is a common mistake that turns a removable stain into a much harder problem.
Testing the residue's chemistry before treatment is a small step that prevents the kind of setback a DIY attempt often creates — it takes minutes and avoids turning a straightforward job into a bigger one.
Having both neutralizing chemistries on hand means our Soot Cleanup crews aren't limited to a one-size-fits-all treatment on a New Lisbon job.
Dry sponging is our default first pass on painted and finished surfaces, since it removes soot without spreading the residue.
We use HEPA extraction on porous surfaces where a sponge alone won't fully lift embedded soot particles.
Because soot corrodes metal continuously, hardware and fixtures get treated even after visible residue is gone.
Soot embeds into grout lines and unsealed masonry differently than it does on flat painted surfaces, requiring specialized solvent application.
We inspect ductwork for soot buildup, since a contaminated system keeps redistributing particles into cleaned rooms.
A live dispatcher takes your call at +1-866-484-1409 and routes the nearest New Lisbon soot crew right away.
A fully equipped crew typically reaches New Lisbon properties within the hour of your call.
The technician tests soot type and surface reaction before writing a room-by-room, surface-matched estimate.
We inspect every treated surface under bright light before calling the job complete, checking for missed residue.
